Executive Leadership Hire – Succession Hire for retiring President and soon-to-be retiring CEO

Client: Regional Developer, Investor, and Manager of commercial and residential real estate in the Mid-Atlantic area

Challenge: The company’s portfolio was mixed and about to be contracted out to third-party management. The role was heavy asset management, lease negotiations, as well as future development and disposition responsibilities.

Approach: We conducted a local search for leaders with multiple discipline experience (property management, asset management, leasing, acquisitions, dispositions, valuation, development, etc.) in multiple asset classes.

Outcome:

  • Successfully identified a candidate with multiple skill sets in multiple asset classes, and also had working relationships already with the newly contracted third-party management companies.
  • CEO and board immediately embraced the new President and his ability to step into the organization’s goals and business plan.

Executive Leadership Hire – President of Property Management (Second Generation Building a New Team)

Client: Regional (5 Southeastern States) Property Management Firm, Owner-operated and Third-Party operated real estate

Challenge: The second generation was taking over leadership with a plan to grow both platforms, company-owned real estate and third-party business, as well as placing a strong emphasis on culture, leading with kindness and respect, empowering their leaders with autonomy, and placing a strong emphasis on supporting both their teams and residents.

Approach: We conducted a local and regional search for leaders at the President level or for leaders currently in the number 2 role, ready for a move into a President’s role.

Outcome:

  • Successfully identified a candidate in an adjacent state, one currently in the number 2 role, who was ready and excited to lead an organization.
  • Placed the President, who oversees all operations and is focused on building the necessary team and systems to accommodate the company’s growth and position in the market.

Executive Leadership Hire – VP of Property Management (Building a Scalable Property Management Team)

Client: Regional Developer, Investor, and Manager of residential real estate with some added commercial space in the Northeast

Challenge: The company had an immediate need for someone to lead the property management area, additional needs to build out property management (District Manager and Community Manager levels), as well as a development need.

Approach: We conducted a local search for leaders with multiple-site property management experience in the areas of market-rate and affordable apartments and focused our efforts on those already at the VP or Director level or those who were ready for the role.

Outcome:

  • Successfully identified a local candidate who met all of the search criteria and stepped into the role seamlessly.
  • Subsequently, placed 2 District Managers, a Sr. Community Manager, 4 Community Managers, and a Development Coordinator.

Executive Leadership Hire – Chief Investment Officer and Fund Manager (Confidential Replacement)

Client: National Private Equity Firm specializing in commercial real estate based in the Southeast

Challenge: The role was to lead the strategy, performance, and operations of the real estate investment funds involved in industrial, office, and retail assets. We were charged with finding someone with a very broad set of skills to oversee all of the tasks of managing and expanding the funds.

Approach: We conducted a regional search for leaders with broad backgrounds capable of managing and growing this fund.

Outcome:

  • Placed the CIO/Fund Manager who wrote and introduced to the Board a business plan much larger than what existed and national in scope that was passionately accepted and supported as the new business plan. The CIO/Fund Manager will be promoted to CEO/Managing Partner later this year.

Executive Leadership Hire – Director of Compliance, Affordable Housing (Regional Leadership Role)

 

Client: The company is a private full-service real estate property management company involved in affordable housing, specifically RAD and HUD.

Challenge: The company needed a passionate expert in affordable housing, specifically RAD and HUD. The individual would oversee the company’s affordable housing management, compliance, and community relations.

Approach: We conducted a regional search for compliance professionals at the Director level, specifically those in the RAD and HUD world.

Outcome:

  • Successfully placed the Director of Compliance, someone who was a regional expert in the real estate product that the client specialized in.

Executive Leadership Hire – Development Manager, Tax Credit Apartments (Remote Location Search)

Client: The company is a multi-family developer, contractor, and manager of affordable housing in multiple states.

Challenge: The role was to oversee a portfolio of development projects from initial application through closing, with a $50–$100 million development volume annually.

Approach: We conducted a regional search for those involved in the development of multiple tax credit apartment projects.

Outcome:

  • Identified and placed a Project Development Manager from an adjacent state who was ready to join a healthy organization with a full pipeline of projects.
